Martinus offers you training in four subjects in fully guided weekend courses. Learn to express your sense of quality and style: discover the jeweler’s tools and experience the fascinating nature of precious materials.

Whether you are just starting out, a serious hobbyist or plan one day to become professional, this training is for you. Martinus combines a friendly personalized coaching style with decades of experience, and shares his vast knowledge of hand fabrication and industrial production techniques. His thoughtful training style focuses on the technical side of your abilities and his attention to detail will help you achieve stunning results.

 

Create your dream piece
Martinus encourages you to develop your own ideas. Feel free to be adventurous and to recharge your creative batteries. Bring along objects that are sources of inspiration to you; ideas, sketches and models can also help you develop your own style.



Course Content
T
wo exciting days at the Martinus Studio

1st Day: Preparations, Parts and Sections
After discussing design and style and getting an introduction to the studio equipment and safety standards, you will immediately begin to shape the components of your new creation.

2nd Day: Assembly and Fine Finish
Now you are ready to assemble—soldering, adjusting and fine-tuning are your new tasks. Finally, Martinus shows you how to create surface textures to make your new jewelry unique and distinctive.

Four subjects to study at any level

Ring Making:

Develop a broad understanding of how to combine techniques to construct a three-dimensional object of your own design, including wedding bands for couples.

Chain Making:

Practice shaping and soldering through repetition.  Focus on consistency of shapes and sizes and making reliable connections and clasps.

Bead Making:

Create a model of your design by carving and shaping in metal or wax.  Learn how to make a mold from your model and create multiple beads and then assemble them. This is a 3-day class over two weekends for $435.

Special Projects:

Complete at least one weekend course and you can work on a special project. You may want to show someone appreciation with a very personalized gift or treat yourself to something really unique. Ask Martinus for customized support to help you complete your special creation.

From Early Beginner to Advanced Levels

Skills to Take Away
In each Martinus course you are guided to learn and take away new skills. Gain valuable knowledge about using professional tools in a real studio workshop. Experience jewelry design from concept to reality and find out how to correctly use:

  • Torches for melting metal—learn their melting points
  • Soldering and fusing—how solder works, how to connect metals and use binding wire
  • Rolling mills, vise and bench tools for rolling sheet metal, drawing wire and shaping materials
  • Measuring tools for precision work
  • Forging techniques—anvils, punches, dyes and hammering blocks
  • Coiling wire for jump rings
  • Machinery skills—drilling and grinding
  • Pliers for shaping and transforming metal
  • Saw, scissors and cutters for building components
  • Files, sand paper and fine polishing wheels for surface work
  • Make rubber molds and wax carving for reproduction methods

Instructions on safety standards for the use of tools and equipment will be part of your training.

Additional Learning Opportunities

Come back, deepen your experiences
To achieve greater refinement and elegance in your work you are invited to study with Martinus on additional weekends or evening practice time.

Evening Practice and Studio Time
Monday evenings practice time provides you with the opportunity to gain refinement and elegance in your work, to experience routine and to achieve your desired skill level. Martinus will help with tips, tricks and guidance. One weekend class is a pre-requisite. Cost is $60 for 4 hours, 4 students maximum. Ask for availability.

Group Specials
We offer our courses on Rings, Chains, Beads and Special Projects, for groups of 4 students (high school students or adults) in morning sessions. Cost for 4 hours per day for 5 weeks is $260 per student. Please form your group, suggest a suitable time and weekday and choose your subject.
