Justin
Justin decided to take Martinus Studio Training to focus on time-saving techniques for one-of-a-kind pieces and all aspects of jewelry repair services in a successful family business. Justin’s exposure to jewelry making is based on his experience in his uncle's workshop. His uncle noted Justin's exceptional talents and together they explored training options. Justin took a Weekend Blitz followed by a short term Apprenticeship Program of four consecutive weeks. Justin is developing a career in the family business of retail custom jewelry.
Justin is measuring the distances on his 14k gold ring and carefully applying the design prior to cutting.
Here he is trying to determine the exact centre for the diamonds and cross design pattern that will be repeated on this ring.
Here are the inner and outer bands which will allow for a recessed, cross-shaped design pattern and house the gypsy set diamonds.
Here Justine is cutting out the cross shaped designs from the outer band.
Justin has produced a chunky, cost effective gold look for his ring by combining sterling silver and gold. Both the inner and outer bands are carefully shaped and fitted. A hammer texture provides added bling!
The repeated, cross-shaped pattern has been cut out from the outer band.

Justin is filing the inner and outer edges of his newly soldered ring shank.
The inner and out bands have been beautifully soldered. Holes have been drilled for the gypsy set diamonds.
Emery paper clean-up in the interior of the band.
An impressive, chunky mens ring complete with six gypsy set diamonds. Finished in a high polish with matte surfaces in the recessed cross motif.
Justin has made three 14k gold bands to be stacked in a substantial ring shank that incorporates a tapered, double-step bezel setting.. His challenge now is to line up and secure the bands for soldering. See technique using binding wire & pins.
Here binding wire and pins are used to line up the bands and stabilize these shapes during the soldering process.
Just has carefully cut out the circular centre area for a tapered, double-step bezel setting. A chinese jade stone will be set.
A beautifully soldered ring shank skillfully fitted to a tapered setting featuring a lively Chinese jade centre stone. Here we see the culmination of four weeks of hard work and training.
The design concept for a complex, oval-framed box clasp mechanism. Justin started this involved project toward the end of his training and learned a great deal yet was not able to complete this clasp to a finished project.
Here Justin is working on a gold component of the oval box clasp. Using the technique of chasing to create an attractive, three dimensional, leaf-like top and bottom for this mechanism.
Justin has made these sterling silver practice components for an oval box clasp. In producing this test sample he has viewed the mechanism from all angles and grasped the complexity and functioning of this type of mechanism.
